This past weekend saw the first SA Fashion Week pop up shop held in the Fountain Court of Sandton City.
The team at SAFW really lived up to the slogan ‘the business of fashion’ when they brought out some of our favourite designers and their collections in a swirl of fashion that took over the mall over the three days.
It is important for the public to engage with the designers and their collections and to be able to pop over to their local shopping centre and pick up a special and thoughtfully created fashion design piece.
I was invited to the Preview evening on Thursday where the who’s who of fashion buzzed around, sipping drinks, experiencing design, and visibly excited for what the rest of the weekend held.
There was a lot of pattern and colour, lots of strong lines, and some amazing construction. As with any other field in design, we were reminded that, at the end of the day, fashion is an industry and a business that needs to be sold! And this kind of inititaive from SAFW allowed that element of the industry to weave through the many enthusiastic shoppers all weeekend!
As always, my passion for emerging designers meant that I spent most time at the exhibition of students’ work. It is so heartwarming and exciting to see our South African designers truly excelling. The future of our design industry never looked so bright!
The crazy day that I had on Thursday led to me forgetting my camera on the night, which is why I had to compromise with pictures on my phone – I do apologise 🙂
